DSTV, GOTV SUBSCRIBERS PLOTTING MASSIVE BOYCOTT OF SERVICES OVER PLANNED INCREASE IN TARIFF

Subscribers of South African based Pay TV Channels, DSTV and GOTV are plotting a massive boycott of it's services should MultiChoice, the parent company go ahead with it's planned tariff increase and fail to implement the "pay as you watch" regime as it obtains in other countries of their operations.

In the latest arrangement that has continued to be label exploitative and insensitive, MultiChoice, owners of DStv and GOtv, announced a 20 percent price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria to take effect from April 1, 2015.  And because of this the subscription fee of DStv’s Premium, Compact plus, compact, access, Family and extra view bouquets are all set to go up, so is the tariff for GOtv Plus and GOtv bouquet.

As from the the targeted date April 1, 2015, subscribers of the DStv premium will now pay  N13,980 as against the old tariff of N11,650, that means an increase of N2,330, those on the DStv family bouquet will pay N3,600 as against the fromer tariff of N3,000. DStv compact plus subscribers will now be paying N9,420 instead of N7,850, while DStv Compact users will pay N6,000 per month, up from N5,000. The tariff for DStv access now costs N1800 up from N1,500, while DStv extra view subscribers will no longer pay N1,800 but N2,100.

For GOtv Plus users, N1,500 tariff will no longer be acceptable but N1800, while GOtv bouquet users will now pay N1,200, from N1,000.

MultiChoice in it's defence explained that the annual price increase, usually in-line with inflation, is necessary for it to continue offering the best in local and international entertainment to its subscribers. The company said it had considered many factors before rolling out the new tariff regime, the company also said that the increase in DStv tariffs was not only in Nigeria, but also in every country where MultiChoice has its operations.

But angry Nigerians who took to the social media have been condemning the latest development saying it is an attempt by the South African company to further exploit Nigerians. A statement currently in circulation is calling subscribers of the Pay TV company to boycott it's services as from April 1, 2015, the statement is reproduced below;

"DSTV Enough Is Enough! Fellow Nigerians, let's ALL boycott DSTV and GoTv services of MultiChoice Nigeria Limited from April 1, 2015 for their planned and exploitative tariff increase which they want to FOIST on the over 2 million subscribers they have in Nigeria (See front pg 9/3/15 Guardian newspaper). Enough is ENOUGH! Nigerians will ‎no longer tolerate this! We will ‎no longer tolerate the lack of Pay-as-you-Watch services they offer in South Africa and other countries but in Nigeria they keep our accounts run‎ning even when ‎we travel and there is no-one at home to utilize the service even though they know these Countries have less subscribers/population than Nigeria. They must implement PAY-AS-U-WATCH in Nigeria on April 1 and lower tarifs, ‎we insist on it, ‎we are not April Fools! They must make that Pay-as-u-watch service EASY  for Nigerians to access with ‎no tricks or long queues to sign up  for it. ‎No more substandard decoders!! Their monopolostic exploitative tendencies must end in Nigeria! As the Arab Spring brought change of Govt in the Middle East, this "DSTV Spring" must bring change, better services and lower prices come April 1st 2015 if ‎we all unite as one! PLEASE re-broadcast this to everyone on your WhatsApp, BBm & WeChat contact list, Tweet it, post it on your FB Status till our VOICE is heard & heeded to in their South African Head Office and this is done, Change Must Come! DSTV Enough is Enough.
