LAGOS COMMISSIONER, WALE AHMED OWES DANA CRASH SITE ARCADE LOCAL MAIGUARD 9MONTHS SALARY. CRASH ARCADE TAKEN OVER BY WEEDS

Like the forgotten ones, the Dana Aircraft crash site arcade in Iju area of Lagos may have being abandoned by the Lagos state government three years the place was built. The arcade have been taken over by weeds, three years after the place was decorated with monuments in honour of those who died during the June 3, 2012 tragedy.

The development is blamed on the abandonment of the site by local security personnel recruited to take care of the place by the Commissioner for Special Duties Hon Wale Ahmed. The Hausa man popularly called Taiye in that street operates a tea shop near the crash arcade, he was recruited by Commissioner for Secial Duties, Hon Wale Ahmed to clean up the place on a private arrangement with a promise of payment of N20,000 monthly. Unfortunately the security personnel abandoned his work after he failed to receive his entittlements for 9months.

Presently the arcade erected in 2013 looks unkept, dirty and weeds have taken over the place rubbishing the beauty of the place. Residents of the crash area are also said to be complaining over the development.

Few days back report in the dailies have it that some relatives of the victims of the June 3, 2012 Dana Air crash still complain of neglect by the airline as they refused to fulfill its promise of compensation. The Dana Air Flight 992 had taken off from Abuja on June 3, 2012. The plane crashed before it could get to its destination ─ Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. It crashed in a residential area in the Iju Ishaga, killing no fewer than 153 persons. The crash was attributed to a dual engine failure.
