RUMBLE AT UNITY BANK AS AMINU BABANGIDA, BOARD CHAIRMAN, THOMAS ETUH QUARREL OVER KEY APPOINTMENTS

A new key appointments have just been announced at Unity Bank Plc, the new appointment was approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria few days ago. There are three non-executive directors and one independent director as announced by the Bank, the non-executive directors are Mrs Yabawa Lawan Wabi, Mr Dauda Iliya and Mrs Priya Heal, while Mr Sam Okagbue is the independent director.

However before the key appointments was announced there have been a guided and secret face off between Chairman of the Bank, billionaire businessman Thomas Etuh and Aminu Babangida, son of former Military Ruler Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. Both Aminu and the board chairman was said to have disagreed over who should be appointed into the key positions.

Sources in the Bank revealed that while Aminu Babangida wanted to protect his interest and make sure his loyalists make the list, the board chairman wouldn't want such. The duo are said not to be in good terms over the development, inside source however insist such occurrence is not a peculiar situation with the Bank, other Bank CEOs too promote their interests in their Bank.

Recall Aminu Babangida was appointed the Bank Vice Chairman in January, he was appointed based on the fact that his father IBB owns one of the largest shares in the Bank, the same thing can be said of Hajia Bola Shagaya who planted her son, Hakeem into key position in the Bank because of her stake in the Bank.
