When Anezi Okoro wrote his book, "One Week One Trouble" he surely does not have NTDC boss Sally Mbanefo in mind. But the fair skinned Director General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation seems to have portrayed the character in the book.
Mrs. Sally Mbanefo have been in the eye of the storm as long as we could remember, not many would forget her fight with owners of the building the Corporation occupied on Awolowo way Ikeja Lagos, Union Homes Limited, she was accused of wielding federal might to suppress a rent debt amounting to over N13million.
Last year during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil she was in the news again for parading a fake exhibition/games village which was fully paid for by the Federal government. But as the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation under her leadership took a dive to the worse, tales of corruption hovers around Mbanefo.
The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) branch of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employee (AUPCTRE) have called on the Federal Government to remove Mrs Sally Mbanefo for an act of fraudulent and incompetence.
In a 12-page petition dated October 2014 and addressed to The Minister of Culture and Tourism High Chief Edem Duke, the Union accused the DG of gross incompetence. The Union claim a lot of money have been spent on activities of NTDC which cannot be accounted for, they staged a protest on Monday and vowed to continue until Mrs Mbanefo is removed.
