JAHTEA RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘VANITY’

Taiye Obasunyi who operates with the stage name JahTea is set to drop his new single titled ‘Vanity’ on the Nigeria music scene. A graduate of Geography from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, he was born a twin over 4 decades ago to a family of nine in Lagos but he traces his roots strongly back to the ancient, historic and artistic city of Benin in Edo state. A strong creative strain runs in his family. His uncle Kenneth Obasunyi was lead saxophonist in late Bobby Benson’s band while his elder brother Victor Obasunyi is a pioneer of Benin contemporary art and has exhibited his works worldwide. Other members of his family are in one way or the other art oriented. JahTea himself is also a mosaic artiste with commissioned works all over the country.
JahTea started loving Reggae music over 3 decades ago listening to the likes of I-Roy, King Yellow Man, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Lucky Dube and says his current influence is Sizzla Kalonji. He started his musical career singing in church and specializes in a fusion of Roots, Culture and Dance hall Reggae which he delivers in English, Bini and Yoruba accompanied also by keyboard playing. Professionally he started with a three man band ‘The Soul-Criers’ in 1996 with an album titled ‘Clarion Call’ has and worked with the likes of Kumboye Sinclair. He is a also member Billy Bronco’s Roaring Thunder International Sound System who are his executive producers.

'Vanity' is a reality song on how people sell their souls lusting for success and how some others are imprisoned in their wealth and was produced by Lloyd Cambell of Joe Frazer Records Miami, USA. Video for 'Vanity' is set to be released. JahTea's is currently in the studio working on other tracks like ‘Seize and Settle’ where he collaborated with Jomo Morgan of Morgan Heritage and ‘Freeway’ a collaboration with Lieutenant Shotgun which are set to also be released shortly. StrongBreed records/entertainment is involved in his management.
