AMIDST GROWING PUBLIC OPPOSITION, OBANIKORO SAYS HE BEARS NO GRUDGE AGAINST LAGOS APC SENATORS WHO OBJECTED TO HIS MINISTERIAL SCREENING

Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has said he bear no grudge against those who objected to his Ministerial screening at the Senate today. The former Nigeria's ambassador to Ghana wrote in his facebook wall this afternoon that, "I have no ill feelings towards the Senators from Lagos who stood against me. Their position has amplified the strength of our democracy."

Amidst heated protests from Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today‎, Obanikoro was confirmed alongside seven others for Ministerial positions. Sen Musiliu Obanikoro, nomination  faced stiff opposition from the three senators from his home state, Lagos.

After a rancourous session characterised by intermittent fights between APC and PDP senators, Obanikoro was invited to observe the tradition of the Senate to, as a former senator, take a bow and take his leave. He and the other seven nominees were later confirmed by a voice vote.

Proceedings in the Senate were on Wednesday tensed after some senators, mainly of the APC, maintained their stand that Obanikoro should not be screened ‎for the position because of a pending case in court seeking to determine his eligibility to hold public office following the ekitigate scandal.
Obanikoro was alleged to have used his office as minister of state for Defence to rig elections in Ekiti State in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through the use of military men as caught on a leaked tape recording.

He was subsequently dragged to court by a member of his party (PDP) in Lagos State, to stop him from holding public office in future while senators from his state petitioned the leadership of the ‎Red Chamber not to screen him pending the determination of the suit.
