Movie practitioners in Nigeria identified as Nollywood are divided over support for politicians ahead the general election rescheduled for March 2015. The English movies producing side of Nollywood is on one side, they have soft spot for the People Democratic Party (PDP) while the Yoruba movie speaking Nollywood is on the other side of the divide - the All People’s Congress (APC).
The Ibinabo fiberesima led Nollywood have been seen romancing the incumbent President Jonathan, they are said to have visited the president at the Aso Rock villa more than one time, where they were promised land sites in the capital city. Such visit to the villa also come with other perks. The Nollywood visitors do not just go home empty handed. Though unconfirmed, it is said that the least of them goes home with a package of $2000 each. This is not including other presidential gifts that are splashed on them.
The Ibinabo Jonathan campaign team include, Segun Arinze, Onyeka Owenu, Omoni Oboli, Kate Henshaw, Monalisa Chinda, Zik Zulu, Fidelis Duker, Ramsey Nouah, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Patience Ozokwor, Alex Osifo, Zack Orji, Francis Duru, Gideon Okeke, Mercy Johnson, Osita Iheme, Chinedu Ikedieze and Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, Yomi Fabiyi, Toyin Aimaku and Joseph Benjamin.
The Yoruba movies faction are solidly behind the APC agenda and are on the Buhari train. You could see most of them on the rally in Lagos some weeks ago. Insiders from the campaign train said that each of the actors pocketed N200,000 after that particular mega rally in Lagos. They have been following the campaign train around since inception. They also are on the team of the APC governorship election, Akinwunmi Ambode.
The leader of the team is listed as veteran actor, Jide Kosoko who is also an APC member. Others are Saheed Balogun, Fathia Balogun, Foluke Daramola, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Moji Olaiya, Olaniyi Afonja, Olamide Adedeji, Desmond Elliot, Yinka Kadri, KWAM 1, Adebayo Salami, Femi Adebayo, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Odunlade Adekola, Muyiwa Ademola amongst many others.
